However, that's where some of the most interesting things can come to life. Sometimes, explaining things that didn't need explaining can actually end up extremely interesting. That's where the fan game Sonic: Before the Sequel takes place.

The main story of this fan game is to depict how Sonic and Tails ended up meeting and ending up at the Emerald HIll Zone together in Sonic 2. The gameplay is reminiscent of traditional 2D sonic games, complete with the same sound effects. However, that doesn't mean the audio design is bad. In fact, this game has some of the best fan made soundtracks I've heard.
Each level has a ton of different challenges and gimmicks to keep things fresh. For instance, in the Titanic Tower zone, you have to find switches to turn off most of the lights and progress forward. During this time, you have to navigate your way around with what few lights are left until you can find a switch to turn all the lights on again.
The game also splits the duo up, and each has their own storyline until they finally meet in the final level. If you're a Sonic fan, then you should definitely give Sonic: Before the Sequel a download. It is one of the best Sonic fan games out there.
